Tina Meier Keynotes Third Annual CyberSummit

Make plans to attend April 1 event

Two years ago the dangers of cyberbullying made front page news across the nation with the tragic death of 13-year-old Megan Meier, an O’Fallon, Mo., teenager who committed suicide after allegedly being involved in an Internet hoax created by Lori Drew, the mother of her best friend.

On Wednesday, April 1, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the third annual Cybersummit, hosted by  CHARACTERplus, a project of the Cooperating School Districts and BJC Healthcare School Outreach, will be held at Lindenwood University’s Spellmann Center, 209 S. Kingshighway in St. Charles.  The Third Annual CyberSummit, orginally scheduled in December was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Megan’s mother Tina Meier, who has become an activist against cyberbullying and is founder of the Megan Meier Foundation, will open the Cybersummit for middle and high school student teams.  One team of students from Hinsdale Central High School in Chicago, Ill. will attend the event.  Space is still available for 21 more teams.  Seven member teams can be a combination of students and advisors/educators.

Eight breakout sessions, conducted by students and professionals include, Personal Branding: Protecting Your Integrity; Plan a Day of CyberIntelligence; What the Law Is and How it Got There, will be held along with sessions that include hands-on experience in breaking through the cyber-culture of harm and humiliation.

To register your school team for the third annual Cybersummit, please contact Brenda Kirchoff at 314.692.9736 or bkirchoff@csd.org. To learn more about the CyberSummit, click HERE.
